Get to know Theresa Nguyen, Junior Product Owner and System Administrator
What’s a typical day like in your role?
My primary responsibility is to manage user access on multiple systems and provide audits of application access as well as create and maintain instructions, reference materials, and documents on processes and procedures. Although I’m in the IT/Product department, I frequently have the opportunity to collaborate with Underwriting, Risk, Accounting/Finance, Operations and Sales.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The IT and technology-related fields allow me to enjoy hands-on activities, learn new tools, applications, or software and implement problem solving skills that I apply to assist coworkers or use to improve my own quality of life. I can implement and improve my technical skills while expanding my knowledge in emerging technologies related to fintech.
What’s an example of a challenging technical problem you overcame?
Because of restrictions, files with macros could not be downloaded or would not open. To automate a few recurring and manual tasks as well as increase productivity by reducing time spent, I created Excel spreadsheet templates with pre-filled formulas and conditional formatting that simply requires pasting data in the according columns.
Do you have advice for someone joining your team?
Establish a basic understanding of the payments industry, which was new to me, then conduct research. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and be involved to learn more! There are tools and trainings to guide through the learning curve.
What is your favorite office snack?
I enjoy kolaches and donuts that colleagues bring to the office because they are shared, brighten moods, and bring a nice break to the day with time to socialize. For some holidays and events, there is a potluck with dessert! If the entire office doesn’t exactly celebrate, sometimes goodies are given or received within the departments.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
In my alone time, I do pixel art while listening to music, watch animated movies or play games. My significant other and I bond over a mutual interest in cars, discuss upgrades and plan modifications for both performance and aesthetics purposes.
