Get to know Bryce Canada, Payment Support Specialist at WAS

What does your day-to-day look like?

I mostly support our commercial, middle market, and business banking merchants. The typical day-to-day includes communicating with them on any issues or questions – I’m their point of contact. I’ve been in the industry for about 10 years now and started off troubleshooting and taking calls from merchants and agents in tech support at the call center, which prepared me for this role.

What do you like about working at WAS?

The innovation – the systems and tools that we’re building are going to be game changers. Our forward-thinking mentality will lead to great things in this industry. With our CEO’s vision – he’s going to lead us to greatness because he doesn’t settle for mediocrity.

What keeps you motivated?

Making a better life for my fourteen-month-old son. Whatever I can do to provide for him and my family keeps me going.

What do you like about the industry?

Just in general, a lot of people don’t know what goes on behind the scenes of running a credit card. They think you just insert your card and the merchant gets the money, but there are so many hands it touches and passes through. All of that really interests me – finding out where the break in the chain is, digging to find it, and fixing it if something breaks. I have an engineer’s mind; I like finding what’s broken and trying to fix it.

What’s something you look forward to each day coming to work?

My motto is that the day I wake up and feel like I don’t want to come to work is the day I need to change something about my life. I’ve never felt like that at Woodforest Acceptance Solutions. The people I work with every day, the camaraderie, and my management team always having my back keep me motivated.

Something your colleagues might not know about you?

I was working at Google in 2013, and my girlfriend at the time (now wife) and her family decided to leave California (where I worked) and move to Texas. It was either stay or follow her – so I took the leap of faith and followed her to Houston. My first job here was at an oil refinery where I worked 60-hour weeks, but it was all worth it because now we’re married and have our son!
